My neighbor is a ‘beekeeper’ and I went there for pictures while he checked the hive and got the honey. Here are a few of the pictures and I’ll have more.
Most pictures were taken with the Nikon D2X DSLR camera and the Nikon 105mm F2.8 VR lens. I used the Nikon D200 DSLR camera and the 18-200VR lens for some of the pictures.

Really neat shots. I’d not be fond of being very close, though. I’m shy around bees!

Bo, thanks for stopping. The bees are very friendly I found out. And now I know what the phrase ‘busy as a bee’ comes from. The action in the society of bees is astounding. They all know what to do and they do it

Wow!
those were really amazing pictures, and even though I hate bee’s, it’s fascinating to see them up close like that. I wonder why there are all those little holes in the hive? Does it have something to do with storing honey?

Erin,
Thanks! And yes, that’s where they store the honey.
When it’s full they put the cap on it. When the tray is all ‘caps’ then the beekeeper can harvest the honey. He leaves much of the honey in the hive for the bees but takes the surplus.
The best book about beekeeping, according to my beekeeper friend, is ‘Beekeeping for Dummies’.
The whole ‘bee business’ is fascinating !
