Rooster’s Eye at Iris Farm-Traverse City, Michigan

While visiting the Iris Farm I saw this rooster  peering through the ‘chicken wire’ fence. It was too good to pass up.  So had to bypass  some of the beautiful Iris flowers to get this picture–

Sleeping Bear Sand Dune and Glen Lake, Michigan

For many summers my family went to this area in Michigan.  It is now in a national park called Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore.

This is our first summer to not go and that makes these pictures especially meaningful to me.

Sugar Cane Workers in the Field in Florida Everglades

One day, not long ago, I went out to the Everglades south of Clewiston, Florida, to get pictures of the birds and wildlife.  I was going around  a dike at the Water Treatment Area #5 when I saw this scene over in a sugar cane field beyond my location.  I shot through the bushes with [...]

Iris Farm – Traverse City, Michigan

Here are a couple of pictures I got at the Iris Farm in Traverse City, Michigan. The flowers are in full bloom around the end of May or early June. It’s an incredible sight and photo opportunity. After the Iris are gone there are Day Lilies. Those are also beautiful and I’ve never seen as [...]

Bell Tower – Zeiss 100mm F2 and Nikon D3

I decided to try something different. I got right up under the bell tower and got this picture. I was almost looking straight up. I’ve seen so many pictures of this tower done the same way  that I decided to try this for a change.
Used the Nikon D3 and the Zeiss 100mm F2.  I had the [...]

Anhinga Found in Backyard-Old Nikon 300mm F4.5 AIS Lens

Yesterday I walked the dogs in my backyard and standing on a rock was this Anhinga. It was probably forty feet from me. Of course I ran in and got the camera but the lens attached was the old Nikon 300mm F4.5 AIS MF lens.  I had no choice but to use that lens  because [...]

Closeup of Bees and Red Poppies

The bees covered these poppies… I got these at the ‘Iris Farm’ in Traverse City, Michigan and used the Nikon D200 with the 105mm F2.8 macro lens.  I’ll be back with pictures of the Iris Farm.  In  late May/ early June (depending on the spring  weather) the Iris are in full bloom. It’s an incredible [...]

Flower with Zeiss 100mm F2 AIS MF MACRO and Nikon D300

This flower is tiny in real life. It’s only about half an inch across and it’s on a large bush which  is covered with these little flowers.  I got this with  the Zeiss 100mm Macro lens on the D300.   The flower looks much bigger in this picture.  It startled me to see all the detail [...]

Red Shouldered Hawk

This is the same hawk that I posted yesterday only this one is in sepia instead of color. It is looking down for fish or snakes because it’s over a little creek.  I think it was hungry because it didn’t move when I got fifteen feet from it. It must have been concentrating on something.
This [...]
